I'm home from work an hour early, so I'm going to blog some recent happenings. Today was Subdivision Training Session #4, which started late and ended early, so that would be considered a good training session in my mind. Plus there was pizza for lunch!
However, the more important reason for me blogging right now is that Steve's not home from work yet. Once he gets home from work, he often takes over the computer. This is okay; we can share. But it's hard to just write creatively (or for more than 5 minutes!) when the blog isn't viewed as that 'important', compared to other more 'important' things that the computer could be used for. (Perhaps online hockey pools?) Anyways, that's how the computer tends to get used in the evening, which is usually fine since I get to look at a computer screen for much of my work day.
This Saturday, we have something exciting to do: a tour of the new condo! Everyone who bought has the opportunity to check out their unit on the weekend, and take photos, see how big or small your rooms will be, whatever you like! I am very excited for this. I am going to take one million photos. I am going to measure everything. I am going to be very happy to see how big the windows and skylights are.
I am especially looking forward the big windows because our current apartment is so dark I can hardly stand it! Part of the darkness is because it faces north-east-ish, so we only get a small slice of morning sun (which we're only around to see on weekends). Part of the darkness is because it's January, which is a generally dark and depressing month, which is also cold and windy. *surprise!* ;-) Luckily, we are going to Mexico to meet up with the Stonehacks for the first week of February, so there's some sunshine in my near future.
But this winter has got me thinking about a couple of things I actually miss about Calgary. First, there's so much sunny weather in Calgary, and I think that makes a difference in my winter attitude. -20 and sunny in Calgary definitely beats -5 or -10 and cloudy in Halifax. I mean, it's cold (and humid) enough here that you have to bundle up just the same as in Calgary (minus the toque on the way to work, which I don't wear unless it's an emergency, because it makes my hair flat). The other thing I miss about Calgary is the trail system along the rivers. It was so great to be able to cross the street and walk or ride your bike for as long as you wanted without ever worrying about cars.
The trail system has been on my mind lately because I need to get more exercise. It's been three months since we were surfing in Tofino, which is when I wore out my knee (the last straw after too much impact in September and October). I thought it was just over-used and would get better with some rest, but now I'm past just 'resting my knee' and am into 'just being lazy'. So now I need to think about what would be good exercise, as well as thinking about some physio, which is probably a safe bet, but...
Did I mention it's the dark and depressing month of January? I need the promise of future skylights to perk me up...
And one more thing: it turns out that Steve is a Pictionary genius. Who knew?

Are you measuring the windows, perhaps, to make curtains? I hope that your walk-through provides you with lots of dreams... Also, happy springyness, the January drear is terrible! Can you e-mail me your mailing address?
Perhaps we should abolish January? No one would miss it .. even Kamloops, in the high sunny? desert is grey this month.
So looking forward to Mexico!!
And I'm looking forward to seeing your condo pictures, so I can suggest where you should put the raffia / sage / barbed wire / macroni sculpture called 'Circle Drear Ranch Gulch Brunch #32' that I sent for you birthday.
